This unit is not for bringing cold liquids to boiling, get an electric kettle for that.It works just fine to warm up a room temperature cup of coffee/tea to hot drinking temp in about 5 minuets. It may be able to handle 220V....?.... but its got a 120v american plug and works just fine. Heats up out of liquid in 10 seconds to a dangerous heat (this is why there is no ON/OFF switch on units like these) most likely there is no thermal shut off in its wiring and it will more then likely burn itself out if not put in liquid before plugging in. Keeping the heating "loop" well submerged below your beverages surface is key to not burning out this heater. I would definitely buy again if there is no microwave around to zap your cooled drinks.

The item is well built but takes a very long time to heat up the water. I am happy with the price and ease of use but the fact that it takes around 10 minutes or more to heat 8oz of water for me to shave is not acceptable. The water will eventually get Boling hot but it's a long wait. I would only recommend it if time isn't of essence to you.

If you leave it plugged in it will become orange hot! I am talking a coil of hot orange metal that you could brand an animal with. The one I received would heat coffee up to a little too hot to drink in seven minutes, boiling in 10. I made the mistake of putting the coil in a cup of coffee with the cord across my lap. Through my own stupidity I knocked it over and the coffee burned my legs. My fault, I admit it. But in my distress I knocked to coil to the ground without unplugging it. By the time I got to it, the coil was orange hot. Once it cooled down, I threw it in the garbage. I know I could’ve returned it to Amazon and probably should’ve but I was just so upset I needed to get the thing out of my life. Lord, help anyone who’s kid sees them warming up a cup of coffee and tries this thing on a cup of hot chocolate. Again, the accident was my fault, but a simple household item like this should not have this amount of dangerous potential where even a small mistake can become a major disaster.

this thing is great for your dabbin needs. however, dont forget to unplug it when youre done as this thing will melt itself into a yellow puddle....or burn down your house...ijs

I knew that it would not boil quickly like electric kettle, so it is totally expected, but it took 17 min to heat up 16 oz of water. It actually did not become boiling at 17 min, but it was pretty hot, so I called it good. For me, it works as how it is because it is only for emergency use. One caution is that the cup became extremely hot, even though it does not become hot with warming up water in microwave. So watch out which container you choose to use it with.

If you are a coffee addict and travel a lot, this is a must have. I buy Starbucks instant at Costco, travel with a stainless steel cup with top and always have at least one decent cup of Joe while staying at hotels and not waiting for room service for junk coffee. KEY TO REMEMBER that you must put the device in the coffee cup with water BEFORE you plug it in, otherwise it immediately shorts and must stops working forever. This is my 4th one over the years and sometimes I’ve forgotten while distrracted. Also note, it takes about a minute to heat water up while in Europe (take a small adaptor) and about 3 minutes in the US. Love this.

Great deal for the money. As stated, I use it daily to heat my tea at the library where I work out of. Subtle enough that nobody notices and it brings water to a boil in my 16 oz thermos cup in about 7 minutes, not bad at all! The plastic bag it came in still functions as its case, because it's a thick little bastage.I am very pleased with this purchase!

Filled a coffee mug with water 7/8 full. Set the Heating Element into the mug and plugged it into my 110 volt outlet and had hot water in 7 minutes. Boiling in 9 minutes. It's well made and it works perfectly for my needs.
