We actually bought this because my husband and I were really excited about it (big kids at heart!), and we were hoping our daughter would be as excited about it as we were. She did not disappoint! She loves watching the gears spin, and she can spin the gears herself too. She's only 1, so she can't assemble it yet and we would not leave her to play with it unattended at that age, but it does keep her interest for a long time just pushing the gears with her fingers. It gives her the opportunity to improve her motor skills and dexterity while learning about cause and effect. I think it's something she'll grown with as well because as she gets older she'll be able to move towards assembling it herself and creating different gear combinations. I like that it allows children to use their imagination and creativity coming up with different combinations.

Gift for my grandson

My 5- and 7-year-old boys are both newly very interested in the solar system and learning all about the planets, so this was a great way for us to explore that interest together in a hands-on way. It felt educational without them feeling like it was “boring learning,” which is always a win. The building process was very simple and a lot faster than I expected, which I really appreciated—especially as someone who often decides to do activities last minute. My kids were able to jump right in without getting frustrated. The pieces are all plastic material but there is plenty of durability which is helpful because the pieces easily move yet stay in place of where they’re clicked in! I appreciate the variety of sizes of the pieces as well as it makes for some extra learning for my youngest. They had a blast moving the gears around and creating their own version of a solar system. One thing they especially liked was the planet stickers included in the set. Having the option to add planets instead of just using plain colored gears made the whole setup feel more realistic and engaging. I do feel as though there could be more gears/expansion pieces based on the price I paid but the value is still worth it for what you get. Overall, this was a great choice for kids who enjoy building, experimenting, and learning through play. It kept both of my kids interested at the same time, and we would definitely buy this again as a birthday gift or educational activity.
