The original buttons are difficult to replace without drilling them out. I slid an old credit card along the side of the button to avoid damaging the door card, then I used a small hooked pick tool against the credit card to pop the buttons out. Make sure to use a card if you are not going to drill the old buttons out. This will prevent damage to the door.
