How to heat up the mre

Instructions may be found on the FRH packet. Take Flameless Ration Heater (grayish / green sleeve with a white pad inside), tear open at top slit, insert retort pouch (containing the meal itself), add water to the marked fill line, fold top over and slide into cardboard sleeve — let the water soak the white pad and you will begin to hear sizzling as it heats up. Lean the pouch against a solid surface (rock or something). Should take about 10 or 15 minutes to fully heat.

The mre says 2022 on it. Is that the day it was made or expiration date?

Neither, it is an inspection date, the manufacture date would be 4 years earlier with an average life span of 10 years. There is a sticker on the case that indicates shelf life based on the color of the sticker.
