American Aldes 4" Roof Cap for Dryer Venting This specialized roof cap is made for ducting dryer vents. Special low pressure design with gravity damper and no screen. Galvanized steel, 4" duct collar. Review: Does what it's supposed to do! - I installed this about a year ago to vent my dryer through my roof. The product I received was exactly as described. Although I don't recall any installation instructions being included with the vent, basic knowledge of how to install a roof vent is all that was necessary to install it. Remember that if you vent your dryer through your roof, you will want to keep the ductwork as straight and as short as possible to minimize lint build-up. I recently climbed onto the roof to clean the vent cap, and while there was some normal buildup of lint after 1 year of heavy use, it wasn't sufficient to hinder the opening and closing of the damper. I would recommend this product if you need to vent your dryer through your roof. Review: Replaced leaky roof vent and six months later i no longer worry every time it rains - Installed to replace the junky unit that is the only one the local big box stores sell. That unit leaked (through the duct) due to poor design. Installation of this unit was easy and it has been on the roof for six+ months without any issue. Once i saw the far superior design of this unit it became obvious why the other one leaked.

Leaky teakie (air, not water)
The flap has gaps on each side (almost a 1/4" each), and there's a sizeable gap on the bottom where the housing joins the plate. I realize that seam is left open to allow drainage of condensation, but it's a HUGE gap. This thing is going to be a big source of heat loss in the winter unless I close the duct from below. If they had extended the 4" tube to engage the flap, this would be a much better design. On the positive side, it's much freeer flowing than the cheap square vents, and not subject to clogging with lint. The higher profile of the gooseneck design is also less likely to form snow bridges in winter.

so far so good
been up there a few weeks and so far no problems.....i see these on high end rowhomes in dc on my drive to work so im guessing these style vents are standard on better made homes

Fair better than big box store standard dryer vent
Superb quality construction. Fair better than big box store standard dryer vent. Additional height is great for flat roof installation in Northeast where snow is plentiful.

Catches too much lint
Our roofer used this vent. I have to unplug it every 2 years. The flapper inside, plus the mesh over the opening, catch too much dryer lint.

Was very easy to install
Was very easy to install. The flapper door has the right angle to keep water from getting blown in during a heavy rain storm. Way better than the crap they seel in the hardware stores.
