so I bought new ones and have been just as happy with the second pair as the first

Absolutely a bargain for the price. I got these for high school marching band and ended up using them as general-purpose shoes (for moderately formal occasions, days I expected to spend a lot of time on my feet, etc). They eventually wore out after eight years of hard use, so I bought new ones and have been just as happy with the second pair as the first. Without these I'd likely have to buy two or three other pairs of shoes; I love them and I'm sure in eight years I'll buy another pair.
