The top is just a sticker.

I was expecting this Feng Shui Compass to be good quality, but it turns out that the top piece depicting mandarin symbols is just a sticker placed over a frame of some different material. The compass needle wasn't reading North very well and seemed to be bouncing around. Try a different Feng Shui Luo Pan if you're interested in traditional Taoism.
